Broken Arrow
Broken Arrow truly demonstrates the home of
the American Dream, and is what we consider to be "the best of
the best places to live." In recent years the Tulsa metro area
has been recognized as the "Nation's second best city for
livability" by Harper's Magazine and "One of America's best
places to live" by U.S. News and World Report. These are
actually compliments to Broken Arrow as it has been the
fastest growing city in the metropolitan area (and the state)
for the past two decades. Broken Arrow is the fifth largest
city in the state with a population of 74,000. It has become
the state's third largest manufacturing community (behind
Tulsa and Oklahoma City). Broken Arrow does not, however, rank
in the top ten cities in the state for per capita crime rate.
A respect for traditional family values and religious
diversity, a strong public educational system, quality
employment opportunities, cultural activities and close access
to the large city amenities in Tulsa make Broken Arrow the
ideal place to work and live.
History and Other Info
The city of Broken Arrow is the 5th
largest city (90,000) in Oklahoma. It is located 15 minutes and
south east of Tulsa. Broken Arrow prides itself on having a
high quality of life with excellent schools, parks, nice
restaurants and affordable overnight accommodations.
Every May, over 100,000 visitors come to
Broken Arrow's Central Park to celebrate Rooster Days.
This event lasts 3 days with arts and crafts, food, a
carnival, rodeo and a parade.
Broken Arrow is home to the RHEMA
Bible Church and Bible Training Center (Headquarters of
Kenneth Hagin Ministries). Every year from Thanksgiving to
Christmas the grounds of RHEMA attract thousands of visitors to
see the thousands of sparkling lights. It is one of the largest
light show in the area.
In August in Broken Arrow the
Gatesway Foundation holds it annual International
Balloonfest.
Broken Arrow also has excellent youth
sports facilities and each year host the national boys' and
girls' softball championships and world series.
Broken Arrow takes its name from a
community in the tribe's homelands in Georgia. Traditionally,
when a community became too big to gather around one campfire,
the people divided and a new town would be established. When it
came time to find a new town site, a group of Creeks decided on
an area they had visited while gathering materials for making
arrows. Since they had broken branches from the trees instead
of cutting them to make their arrows, they named their new camp
Thlikachka or Broken Arrow.
Broken Arrow has Pride, Spirit, Tigers,
Eagles, Wolf Cubs, Panthers and more.
